FAQ

Below are a number of Frequently Asked Questions (and their answers). If you do not find an answer to your question, please CONTACT US and we will do our best to answer your questions!

Q: I want to make a beach reservation for a party/gathering; who do I contact about that?
A: The present contact person is listed in The NewsBuoy. Please use the phone number found in The NewsBuoy or the CONTACT US form on this website to contact the scheduler for a reservation.
Q: Why are there no phone numbers or e-mail addresses found on this site?
A: We, like everyone, are tired of SPAM. Unfortunately there are programs called 'spiders' out there that automatically 'crawl' sites looking for that information so that it can be sold or SPAMMED. We use a secure form under the CONTACT US link to hide that information so that it can not be poached.
Q: On the Beach Rules it says that I am not allowed to have glass containers on the beach... is this just for alcohol or can I bend the rules?
A: The short answer is, you are NEVER allowed to have any glass containers at any of the beaches. The explanation is safety. There are many problems with glass, but the two most serious to us are 1) not everyone picks up after themselves and the broken glass finds its way into the sand. People continue to be cut by this glass each year whether it be in the water or on the beach. 2) your beach manager has been injured doing her duty in the past. Many people do not know that the trash on our beaches is not picked up at the beach by the county. Our beach manager has to hand carry the trash to the dumpsters in their vehicle. Both the weight of the glass in the bags and the danger of the sharp broken glass to that person is serious enough to ban glass completely!
Q: How come ABI doesn't accept ON-LINE PAYMENT for my beach passes, vehicle registration, or boat passes?
A: This is something that is being looked into, however is not offered currently. To do this, we would have to use an external collection source (like PayPal) and would have to charge an additional processing fee. We have discussed this option at ABI meetings, but wanted to fully investigate the option before moving forward. If you are IN FAVOR of this option, please use the CONTACT US form and send a message to the ABI Chairman expressing your opinion.
Q: I just moved here and my registration on my vehicle doesn't match my new address. What do I do?
A: The reason we request a copy of your vehicle registration is to verify that all car/ramp passes/permits are being distributed to Arden Residents ONLY. If you recently moved here, you can supply a copy of the front of either a BGE or cable bill that shows your name and address or make a copy of the change of address card you receive from the MVA. The name on the registration and the name of the person requesting passes/permits must match. If you still have questions, please contact your section representative and he/she will assist you.
Q: I sent my information in a while ago and haven't received my passes/permits yet.
A: In 2010 we moved the late fee date to March 1 in an effort to receive payments quicker which enables us to receive money quicker and complete some of our repairs, upgrades, and enhancements to the beaches before the season. However, this caused a flood of payments to the registrar. Remember this is a volunteer position and there are 900+ lots in Arden which is a lot for one person to handle on their spare time. We actually have 2 people pitching in to help for 2010 which has been very appreciative. If you have not received your passes or stickers yet, either there was an issue with your submission that your section representative will be in contact to resolve or they just haven't gotten to your information yet. Please be patient and we will assure that all passes/permits will be taken care of before the season. If you still have questions, please contact your section representative directly.
Q: I moved here, or bought a lot in Arden, after the deadline for car/ramp passes/permits. Do I have to pay the late fee?
A: No. The late fee is only regarding the $22 required payment that is in each deed. Car/Ramp passes can be purchased at any time and there is no late fee. If the $22 fee for the lot was not paid by the previous owner, all we request is proof that you moved into the community or purchased a lot after the due date.
Q: I sold my old car and purchased a new car after I bought my stickers and my license plate has changed. Do I have to purchase another sticker for my new car?
A: No. Please contact your section representative and explain the situation and the old pass will be voided and you will receive a new pass for your new vehicle.
Q: I bought a boat after the deadline for car/ramp passes/permits and would like to buy a ramp sticker. Do I have to pay the late fee?
A: No. The late fee is only regarding the $22 required payment that is in each deed. Car/Ramp passes can be purchased at any time and there is
no late fee.
Q: Why do I have to supply a copy of my registration for a car pass/ramp permit? I sent my $22 in for the lot payment.
A: Unfortunately in the past we have had problems with residents buying passes/permits for friends/family that live outside of Arden. The reason we request a copy of the vehicle registration is to verify/assure that pass/permit requests are for vehicles/trailers that are registered to the owner that lives in the community and not someone who doesn't live in the community. We request this information to protect our community and your/our property investment. The ABI property/beaches add value to your property and we need to limit access to Arden residents in order to maintain this value and not open it up to public access.
Q: Why do I have to provide my registration every year? It's valid for 2 years and should be on file in your database.
A: As a volunteer, the Registrar does an amazing job and puts in a lot of time to take care of the 950+ lots/requests each year. If the Registrar has to start verifying registrations from prior years, this would: 1) Not only add additional work and time but additional delay in processing the requests. 2) Require more back and fourth correspondence to get the current registration if the one on file is not up to date, add additional delays, and add additional work for the Registrar. We don't request this information as an inconvenience every year, we request this information to help out the Registrar as much as possible due to the unbelievable amount work involved, to assure that the information is valid, and the Resident still resides within Arden.
Q: It's February, I sent in my registration and check a month ago and still have not received my beach cards... what's the holdup?
A: Please remember that ABI is not a business... all board members, as well as the Registrar, are volunteers and typically have families as well as full time careers outside of the community. To answer your question: You should be receiving your cards and/or stickers soon. The Registrar has to receive the information, verify the information, update the database with the sticker numbers, stamp the original paid, scan the information into his computer, and send everything back out -- this is to 950+ homes.
